Founded 62 years ago in Hampshire, FitzRoy is a pioneer in delivering innovative person-centred care and support for people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs. Their homes and services ensure that people can thrive at the heart of their communities, enjoying a sense of belonging and achieving their ambitions.
The James Tuttiett Charitable Trust supported their Rural Skills project based in East Meon, Hampshire which supports people with learning disabilities and autism to build skills, confidence and community connections. What’s unique about Rural Skills is that they achieve this through training in horticulture, conservation, woodwork and rural crafts.
Rural Skills addresses social isolation, promotes wellbeing and empowers people to play an active role in their communities and it is hoped our donation has a direct and lasting impact enabling participants to gain both practical abilities and the confidence to live more independently.
Up to 12 adults can attend each day, learning how to cultivate herbs, fruit and vegetables which are sold to the public. The rural skills team help participates to learn how to maintain the grounds, get involved in woodcraft, grow patio pot plants and hanging baskets along with growing plants and vegetables. All proceeds go straight back into the project.
The JTCT was delighted to assist FitzRoy in building stronger more resilient communities, that are united to bring everyone together to stand up for nature.
