Winchester Youth Counselling has been offering free confidential counselling therapy for 11-25 year olds in Hampshire for 25 years. In this time they have supported the equivalent of 1 child in every 3 Winchester classrooms. Central to their therapeutic work is the connection between the natural world and mental wellbeing. Alongside group sessions of Nature Therapy, they offer one to one ‘Walk and Talk’ therapies which the JTCT is delighted to support.
Nature is the co-therapist and themes that can be really difficult to discuss, such as loss and change, can be explored through noticing how the seasons alter the landscape.
Walk and Talk therapies are ideal for individuals who may struggle to engage with more traditional indoor therapies and instead allows clients and counsellors to spend time outside in some of Hampshire’s most beautiful natural habitats.
The JTCT donation will help WYC to triage, safeguard, and offer 65 sessions of outdoor therapy for 11-25 year old individuals.
Recent feedback from clients completing Walk and Talk sessions: “It helped me so much and I really appreciate all the advice I was given and how safe I felt. It has been the most beneficial experience I’ve ever had and the most brilliant thing I’ve chosen to do. It’s improved my mental health incredibly”.
